Fosgate Auidonics FAA 1000.5 Modular Multi-Channel Amplifier

FAA 1000.5, incorporating the acclaimed Trans•ana circuit topology in a new Class-G version, delivers a level of audio performance previously available only in much more expensive and exotic products.
JFET input stages dramatically reduce noise modulation and cross-products which can cloud amplifier detail and clarity on complex musical material.

MOSFET power output devices assure high output current, fast transient response, reliability and transparent sound quality.

Trans•ana output topology is configured for “voltage gain,” allowing a simple signal path.

Output topology is dual-voltage-rail type, with soft transition between levels (Class-G), allowing cooler operation at typical 1/8 to 1/3 power levels. 4:1 power headroom (average) allows sustained high output levels -- a highly desirable characteristic for reproduction of movies or music. The FAA 1000.5 is virtually immune to thermal shutdown and meets UL and other regulatory requirements.

A real-time protection system continuously computes MOSFET power dissipation. Combined with the unique load-impedance selector switches, optimum operation is attainable with any type of loudspeakers.

Enhanced Stability: Double Bottom Construction and a Specially Designed 5th Foot (A.R.T. Wedge)

Yamaha AVENTAGE Fifth Foot
A specially designed fifth foot adds even more stability to reduce vibration

Strong stability in an amplifier design reduces noise and jitter in your digital signal for clearer audio and video. Yamaha's AVENTAGE series of amplifiers achieves maximum stability via a new H-shaped cross-member frame, with cross-members supporting the top, bottom, and sides of the chassis. High-grade, heavier terminals reduce vibration at the speaker connections. An additional bottom cover contributes extra support at higher volume levels for the power transformer and heat sinks. And the specially-designed fifth foot at the center of the amplifier--an Anti-Resonance Technology (A.R.T.) Wedge--improves overall structural rigidity and reduces vibration, resulting in a more stable signal and sound improvement.

Enhanced Power: Optimized Power Amplifier Layout with Ultra Low Jitter Circuitry

The symmetrical power amplifier layout evenly distributes weight across the amplifier to control vibration, improving signal-to-noise ratio for an improved sound experience. The high-quality Burr-Brown DACs feature a direct path to ground, not sharing the ground like in other amplifier designs, for a more efficient and clean signal. Built-in Ultra Low Jitter circuitry reduces jitter from digital sources, including HDMI, using a more precise timing control--so you can be sure of a stable audio/video signal, resulting in perfectly reproduced images and sound.

A hybrid power supply makes the AVENTAGE series even more efficient. Independent power supplies for the digital and analog circuit results in less power consumption in standby mode, and a more efficient power transformer--so despite the power of the RX-A3010, it could cost you less to run.

Speaker Wire Explained

The thickness of speaker cables is indicated by the "gauge." The lower the gauge, the thicker the wire. For example, 10- and 12-gauge wire is quite thick, while 18- and 20-gauge is comparatively thin. The average person will probably be very happy with 14-gauge speaker cables as all-around decent cables for average runs and audio systems.

Audiophiles will likely opt for a little more assurance that they are getting everything they can from their sound system, and might choose 12-gauge for surround-sound speakers, and 10-gauge for the subwoofer. The subwoofer delivers the bass sounds in a home theater system, and the thick 10 gauge cable assures low resonance signals will be replicated nicely. Surround sound speakers can also be wired with 10-gauge cables, but this is probably an unnecessary margin of overkill. In home applications it is rare to use anything thicker than 10-gauge speaker cables.

While receivers for home theater systems process audio sources to send bass signals to the subwoofer and special effects or brighter sounds to other speakers, traditional 2-speaker stereo systems must handle brighter frequencies and bass together. For this reason 10- or 12-gauge speaker cables can vastly improve the sound of stereo speakers that might be currently wired with older 18- or 20-gauge speaker cables.
While several popular manufacturers of audiovisual cabling charge fairly high prices for speaker cables, humbler brands can be just as good. For this reason many people, including many audiophiles, buy quality speaker cable by the foot from large spools at home improvement centers, electronics shops or other general vendors, rather than paying for expensive packaging and trendy names. Those even less concerned buy spooled lamp cord to save additional money. However, manufacturers of speaker wire provide specifications as to shielding, impedance and resistance. Manufacturers of lamp cord have no stake in how their wiring will sound.

Optional connectors like banana plugs or spades can be attached to the ends of speaker cables, making it easier to connect them to the speaker or receiver. Purists contend that connectors only impede the signal, no matter how nominally. This sect prefers to trim the bare ends of the speaker cables every year or so to produce a fresh connection. Trimming off any corrosion keeps the connections clean and unhampered.
Many people today choose to hide their speaker cables. This can affect the type of wiring required.bywisegeek.com

    Thiel CS2.4

The CS2.4 is the result of THIEL's more than 25 years of extensive experience in designing high performance loudspeakers for home music and video sound systems. Since 1977, THIEL's innovative engineering has led to significant sonic improvements in each new model, resulting in speakers with the most outstanding performance in their class.
All-metal diaphragm driversThe CS2.4 is a three-way system incorporating all THIEL-designed and built metal diaphragm drivers--a 1-inch dome tweeter, 3.5-inch midrange driver, and 8-inch woofer--along with a 7.5 x 11-inch passive radiator. Metal diaphragms provide much higher stiffness which eliminates diaphragm resonances in the operating range for very clear and open reproduction.
The CS2.4 drivers also use unusual short coil/long gap, copper-stabilized motor systems to dramatically reduce distortion. Coupled with the low resonance diaphragms and very high quality electrical network components, a very high level of clarity and tonal accuracy is achieved.

´ Very high performance sound from a
    medium-sized, 3-way floor-standing loudspeaker

´ Specially designed coincident tweeter/midrange array eliminates the need for a high-frequency electrical crossover network

´ Completely time and phase coherent
    for greater realism

´ Ultra-low distortion short-coil, long gap, copper-stabilized driver motor systems

´ Uniform, resistive load improves performance when used with lower power amplifiers

´ Beautiful cabinetry, available in a variety of finishes, integrates well into any room.

´ Provides great realism for both
    music and movies

The CS2.4 is available in 13 cabinet finishes including Satin Black finish, shown here. See more beautiful THIEL cabinet finishes HERE

Completely Time and Phase CoherentAs with all THIEL loudspeakers, the CS2.4 is completely time and phase coherent for much greater sonic realism. THIEL's Coherent Source (R) technology achieves the elimination of both time and phase distortions that cause alterations in the reproduced musical waveforms of most loudspeakers. Eliminating these distortions results in enhanced realism, clarity, transparency and immediacy as well as improved imaging and soundstaging in both the lateral and depth perspectives. Phase coherence in the CS2.4 is achieved by utilizing a sophisticated first-order electrical crossover system in conjunction with unusually wide bandwidth drivers. Time coherence is achieved by coincident tweeter/midrange driver mounting and the placement of the drivers on a baffle that is sloped at the correct angle to cause the sound energy from each to reach the listener at the same time.
    CS2.4 SpecificationsBandwidth (-3 dB): 33 Hz-37 kHz; Amplitude Response: 36 Hz-25 kHz +/-2 dB; Phase Response: Minimum ±10 degrees; Sensitivity: 87 dB@2.8 V-1m; Impedance: 4 ohms (3.0 ohms minimum); Recommended Power: 100-400 watts; Cabinet Dimensions: 11 inches wide x 14 inches deep x 41.5 inches high; Weight: 70 pounds

An optional aluminum Outrigger base is also available for the CS2.4. Click here for more information on THIEL Accessories.

    New coincident driver array
The new CS2.4's most innovative design feature is a newly designed coincident tweeter/midrange driver where the two drivers' diaphragms share the same voice coil. This technique allows for the elimination of the midrange/tweeter section of the
electrical crossover network as the drivers incorporate a mechanical crossover. Along with eliminating the need for two driver magnet structures, these reductions allow the CS2.4 to achieve a level of sonic performance normally reserved for more expensive speakers. The coincident array also uses very powerful neodymium magnets to improve efficiency and a redesigned magnet venting system to reduce unwanted resonances.
    Metal diaphragm, low distortion woofer
The CS2.4's 8-inch woofer uses a very low distortion short coil/long gap motor system, powered by a 2.5 pound magnet. The rigid aluminum diaphragm eliminates resonance coloration, a special copper pole sleeve
reduces inductance distortion, and a heavy copper ring maintains an ultra-stable magnetic field. In combination with the 7.5 x 11-inch bass radiator, the woofer produces exceptionally clean bass down to 33Hz.thielaudiosource

    EarthQuake Sound Cinénova 7

Two years of research. Three new technologies. Earthquake Sound proudly presents the Cinénova 7 multichannel amplifier.
For years audiophiles have been asking for an amplifier rivaling the Cinénova Grande in audio excellence, but positioned in the 200 watt class. The Cinénova name represents the pinnacle of amplification regardless of price. Traditionally, listeners assume that a reduction in power and cost will influence the quality of sound. With a constant demand for this amplifier, Earthquake’s chief engineer Joseph Sahyoun descended into the Earthquake research laboratories determined to crack the code to the universe and design an amplifier with no compromise in sound quality and competitively priced.

Since its inception, the Cinénova design concept has been a tempered blend of traditional high-end virtues combined with innovative and novel circuitry design. Produced using in-house proprietary manufacturing techniques, this tradition lives on in the new Cinénova 7 with a completely monaural design and enhanced class AB operation. The result is industry leading efficiency making the Cinénova 7 a true green amplifier.
Several new technologies had to be created during the intense development process in order to miniaturize the Cinénova Grande reference design. Contrary to logical thinking you cannot scale down an amplifier and expect it to perform the same just at a lower power level. Since real world customers don't play gentle on small, easy driven loudspeakers, high performance amplifiers have to be built and tested to the most rigorous standards. When lesser amplifiers are tested on low impedance, highly reactive speakers, they quickly lose control of the speaker cone. This results in muddy and distorted sound.
Earthquake engineers put prototype after prototype through rigorous and exhaustive testing. The conclusion was that even at 200 watts, the industry standard of 2 to 4 output transistors per channel simply was not sufficient to retain the taunt, punchy and distinctive woofer control that the Cinénova name has become synonymous with. The Cinénova 7 employs 8 massive output transistors per channel ensuring that even the most demanding speakers are held in an iron grip and any soundtrack is reproduced with dynamic precision and articulation.

During the research process for the Cinénova 7, three core technologies were developed to optimize the amplifier and elevate its performance above its class.
    MARS TECHNOLOGY
The MARS technology (Magnetically Actuated Reanimation System) is a new type of protection system that enables the use of all the amplifier’s power resources without compromising the survivability of the amplifier under catastrophic conditions. Typical protection systems rely on fuses or relays that complicate the signal path thus degrading audio quality. MARS is different as it is not in the signal path, but works by sensing the electro-magnetic signature of the speaker output wire then translating this input into amperes flowing through the wire. Using the principle discovered by Danish Scientist H.C. Oersted, this design has no impact on the sound quality of the amplifier as it is totally separate from the audio circuits.

The internal communication of MARS is handled via optics rather than electrical circuits. This means MARS does not create an electromagnetic field as no current is flowing through wires. The signal path remains free of artifacts that impact and taint the sound in other designs as no amount of light activity can influence an electrical system.

Normally a relatively large safety margin is necessary because of the antiquated nature of traditional protection systems. MARS operates at 500khz speed making it deadly accurate. This enables the amplifier to utilize the outputs SOA (safe operating area) to the limit. This gives a MARS enabled amplifier 20 percent more power than an identical non-MARS amplifier.

During testing, the MARS technology showed that the output of the amplifier could be short-circuited at full power more than a thousand times with no damage to the amplifier. MARS does not use any relays or other damping-factor reducing mechanical switches that can wear out or fail over time. Instead, a specially designed circuit instantly shuts off the output drive.

In the event a short-circuit activates the MARS protection system, it continuously re-scans the output every 10 seconds. Normal operation automatically resumes as soon as the short-circuit condition is removed.
    ION TECHNOLOGY
The ION technology (In-Circuit Optimization Network) is an advanced network of connection points on the Cinénova 7 circuit-boards. Traditionally, transistors and capacitors are paired, grouped and tested to ensure compatibility. However, it has been shown especially by exotic and esoteric audiophiles across the globe that even highly refined mass produced amplifiers have substantial room for improvement when individually tweaked and optimized. A lot happens when individual components are put together in a circuit. A certain margin of difference between two seemingly identical circuits exists. Some engineers refer to this as the “Ghost in the machine.” The option of being able to fine-tune and optimize a circuit even after it has been built would be the evolutionary solution - enter the ION technology. ION enables individual tweaking while remaining in a mass production environment.
When the circuit is completed, the ION network is connected to a specially designed diagnostics computer that automatically determines the optimal connections and ION then makes those connections permanent.
    CONCURRENT
The ConCurrent power supply design ensures full power can be delivered at all times to all channels simultaneously. Earthquake engineers developed the parallel symmetric transformer with identical electromagnetic coupling for each secondary winding. Every channel has its own secondary winding, capacitor bank, rectifiers and output circuitry all mounted on massive, individually, vertically-ripped extruded aluminum heat-sinks. The individual channels remain sovereign and autonomous as sharing is not required. This guarantees that no matter how hard one channel is driven it will have no effect on surrounding channels.
Power supply efficiency, stiffness and strength are dependent on several factors. The ConCurrent design is the culmination of intense optimization of all known parameters. To stiffen the supply (lower regulation factor) the transformer cores are made of ferrite instead of a lower grade iron material. The windings are made with the same oxygen free copper that is used in high-end speaker cables. To ensure hum-free operation, the transformer is hard-wound and made with military grade high temperature lacquer. The ConCurrent power supply in the Cinénova 7 has a combined transformer rating of 2400VA.
A high-end design using completely separate output blocks are largely unheard of in this class of amplifier, but with Earthquake’s enduring strive for quality and excellence there simply was no other way. From the loudest crescendo to the finest syllable, the Cinénova will remain composed and in control. We invite you to enjoy the unique ownership experience of this Cinénova amplifier that was designed by a brilliant mind and built with loving hands.from eartquakesound.com

MK Sound – Our Vision and Mission

At MK Sound, we design loudspeakers to sound inherently right, making them universal tools, equally adept with any style of music or movie soundtrack, in stereo or surround.
The inherent rightness of our products – call it accuracy, precision, naturalness, realism – breaks down the barriers that otherwise exist between professional and consumer audio, as we create loudspeakers free from the analytical brutality of typical studio monitors that make listening feel like work and equally free from the euphonic colorations of typical domestic speakers that introduce a boring sameness to recorded sound.
Our philosophy is that the only truly worthwhile listening experience is one that transports you to the site of the original acoustic event with absolutely minimal loss, addition or distortion. This is why our speakers are designed as a conduit to allow you to hear exactly what the performers and recording engineers heard, no more and no less.
As a company founded on audiophile recording and High End loudspeaker design, the basis for all MK design work throughout three and a half decades has always been that a good loudspeaker must accurately and realistically reproduce the original acoustic event, whether the source is a human voice, a musical instrument, an explosion or a gentle breeze caressing the leaves of a tree. Naturally, this must include the acoustical ambiance of the space in which the source was recorded.
    A Commitment to Excellence
For more than three decades, Miller & Kreisel has been the standard bearer in speakers for music and motion picture sound in the studio and in the home. Because our emphasis has always been exclusively on accurate reproduction that maintains the full integrity of the original recorded signal, M&K has developed a fiercely loyal following both among professional users and music and cinema enthusiasts.
Under the MK Sound banner, veteran members of the M&K Professional team joined forces in 2007 to keep the legend alive with a clear and focused vision to maintain and improve the high standard of the products and their presence in the global marketplace. Rotel RC-1580/RB-1582 Sound Quality?

Like NAD, Rotel has for many years steered a careful course somewhere between the vast multi-nationals (Sony, Yamaha) and the small specialists, as well as managing to maintain a profile associated with distinctive products of good performance and value.
The RC-1580 and RB-1582 amps are actually among the more expensive we've seen from the company and it's no surprise to find out that they are the current stereo range-toppers.
In terms of basic specification they are well equipped, with the RC1580 preamp offering eight line inputs, plus phono (both flavours), while the RB1582 is a particularly high-powered beast. But does one actually need that much power for domestic audio?
Obviously the answer entirely depends on the speakers, the space to fill with sound and the target loudness. A few spare watts never hurt and the high current delivery, which is also on offer, is often handy for controlling awkward speakers, even at lower levels.
You'll notice that the preamp thoughtfully includes separate source selection for listening and recording. In order to provide this flexibility, Rotel has had to compromise slightly on the signal switching arrangements, which use relays for listening and an electronic switch for recording.

The volume control is a motorised mechanical one, and the (switchable) tone and balance controls also use mechanical parts.
The power amp features a particularly large mains transformer, with separate secondary windings for each channel, plus huge supply smoothing capacitors grounded via a large copper plate.

Even when playing at quite modest levels (the same as all the others in the blind test, decided empirically but well within the envelope of the least powerful here), these amps still manage to put out a powerful and convincing performance.
By unanimous acclamation, they rocked harder than any others here and overall achieved the most convincing musical results.
The nearest thing to a serious criticism was the mention of slight stridency on piano and other tuned percussive sounds. Take rhythm, for instance. Right across the board, the sound was felt to have not just excellent drive but also great rhythmic solidity and consistency – it never waivers whatever happens to the musical texture.
In part, this is due to the very solid, but also very well-tuned, bass, but the taut midrange clearly also plays a role. Treble is clean and detailed, with very nice decay into ambience, while the detail is just delightful, clear and precise. You want more? Dynamics, maybe?
They're generous and beautifully judged, on both the small and the large scale – the big swells across a whole orchestra and the little inflections in an individual voice or instrument.
Oh, and though it couldn't be part of the main listening as several amps didn't have one, the phono stage is also something of a gem.by richard black

    BOWERS & WILKINS 683 SERIES

The imposing 683 is the genuine three-way speaker of the 600 Series, with a line-up of technologies and a level of performance that defies its entry-level place in the market. For large rooms, two 683s make a formidable partnership, either for stereo hi-fi or fronting a home theatre installation.

Deep, dynamic, bottom-end power is delivered by a pair of aluminium/paper/Kevlar® composite cone bass drive units. The 150mm Kevlar® midrange handles middle frequencies with its characteristic clarity and tunefulness, but, for the first time in a 600 Series speaker, includes FST cone surround technology for extra detail and resolution. The Nautilus™ tube-loaded, aluminium dome tweeter, featuring a new surround material to improve spaciousness and imaging, adds needle-sharp top end all the way to 50kHz and beyond.

The improvements to the drive units in the new 600 Series make it possible, for the first time, to introduce a minimalist crossover to the range. The use of components that are fewer in number but higher in quality – hand-picked in exhaustive listening tests – reduces the degradation of the signal significantly. So, whether you’re enjoying hi-fi or home cinema, what you hear is that much closer to what was recorded.

    KRELL Evolution Two PreAmplifier

    Power Supplies
Housed in a separate chassis, the power supply makes use of extensive electrical and magnetic shielding to keep radiated interference out of critical preamplifier circuits. Internal line conditioning circuitry filters RF noise on the AC power, and compensates for asymmetric power waveforms and DC on the mains. Power for the analog stages comes from a large 170 VA toroidal transformer. This transformer drives four 8-amp bridge rectifiers and 39,600 microfarads of filter capacitance. Each monaural preamplifier has as much power supply capability as many stereo power amplifiers.
The main regulators for the analog stages are scaled-down versions of those used to power the output stages of the Evolution One amplifier. Operating in current mode, with fully complementary gain stages and output drivers, wide bandwidth, low output impedance, and high current capability, the main regulators easily exceed the requirements of the analog stages. The driver and output stages in the main analog regulators use five pairs of 150 Volt, 8 Amp, 40 megahertz power transistors.
A dedicated 90 VA toroidal transformer with three independent secondary windings
powers the preamplifier's digital control circuitry. The regulators for the control circuitry team ultra-stable voltage reference chips with the same discrete high current driver and output transistors used in the main analog regulators. These ample power reserves are brought to the Evolution Two via high reliability 12-pin connectors with machined, gold plated, three-amp contacts. Secondary voltage regulators for each analog stage in the Evolution Two provide ultra-quiet, rock-solid supply rails, as well as complete isolation between all the analog stages.
When the Evolution Two is placed in stand-by, all the analog circuitry continues to operate at the same bias current; however, the main analog supply voltages decrease by 30 percent. The result is a corresponding 30 percent reduction in power consumption and heat without the need to wait for the electronics to "warm up" before listening.
Zero Feedback Balanced Current Mode Design
The signal path is fully complementary and fully balanced from input to output. All transistors operate in Class A mode. CAST inputs drive a newly designed current mode balanced input stage, which uses a unique topology able to reject common- mode input noise over an unusually wide bandwidth. Single-ended and balanced inputs drive a dynamically-cascoded JFET buffer, which has tremendous open-loop linearity and very high input impedance, to eliminate loading effects. The voltage signals are then converted into balanced current signals, the form in which they remain through the remainder of the signal path. The audio signal remains in the current domain throughout the entire preamplifier. Only at the single-ended and voltage outputs is it converted back to the voltage domain.
All signal gain is realized in the current domain using proprietary multiple-output current mirrors with nearly 500 times the open loop linearity of other designs. Negative feedback is not used anywhere in the Evolution Two preamplifier, nor is it necessary. Open-loop distortion is typically less than 0.005% (50 parts per million), and the open loop bandwidth extends to two megahertz. The result is an extraordinarily wide and deep image, with an open, effortless sound. The signal switching relays are hermetically sealed and use gold-plated bifurcated contacts for maximum signal integrity. Where needed multiple relays are connected in a "T" configuration to virtually eliminate crosstalk from unselected inputs. The volume setting can be adjusted and displayed either numerically, from 0 to 151, or in dB, from - inf to +12.0 dB.

    Fully Balanced Discrete Volume Control
The volume control is realized with a 16-bit balanced resistor ladder, which uses low-resistance, high-linearity solid-state switches and discrete precision resistors. Control signals for the switches are optically coupled for low noise and maximum signal integrity. The bandwidth and transient response of the preamplifier circuitry are virtually unaffected by the volume setting. As a result high frequencies sound especially smooth and extended, and music seems to emerge from "jet black" silence. The analog and digital signal paths are not interconnected. Where necessary, digital control signals are optically coupled to analog circuits.
The Evolution Two has two buffered tape outputs: one linked to the main signal selection bus, and another with its own independent signal-selection bus. This allows the option of listening to one source while recording another, or the option of connecting two tape decks having different input signals. Both tape outputs have single-ended and voltage outputs. Either the fourth single-ended input or the third balanced input can be user-configured as a tape monitor input, allowing the opportunity to use home or professional recording equipment.
Advanced Microprocessor Control and Custom Software
A user menu allows extensive customization of the preamplifier operation, including (but not limited to) input names, input-specific gain trims, Theater Throughput ™, display brightness, and 12-volt triggers. Integration is supported via RS- 232,12 Volt trigger, and RC-5 inputs, as well as an IR transmitter for programming a learning remote control.
A built-in digital network allows multiple preamplifiers to be linked together, blending the convenience of a single-chassis stereo preamplifier with the sonic performance obtainable only from individual monaural preamplifiers. Six or more preamplifier channels can be "daisy-chained" together and controlled simultaneously for multi-zone or home theater applications. The digital link allows the user settings in one preamplifier channel to be conveniently "cloned" to other linked preamplifier channels. Similarly, upgraded software in one preamplifier channel can be installed in other preamplifier channels using the digital link.
In the event that the DC level at any of the preamplifier channel outputs exceeds a nominal level, sophisticated protection circuitry safely mutes the outputs, traces the source of the excess DC, and displays a diagnostic message on the main display. On power-up, the microprocessor verifies that all the circuit boards in the preamplifier channel are properly connected and are compatible with the version of software installed.krell.com
